Step into the rich and rebellious world of nineteenth-century literature with this engaging short course on three remarkable Victorian women writers: Mary Shelly, Anne Brontë and George Eliot.
We will discuss Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, Anne Brontë's the Tenant of Wildfell Hall and George Eliot's Silas Marner. From gothic imagination and social criticism to psychological realism, these pioneering authors challenged conventions and reshaped the literary landscape. Through close reading and lively discussions, discover how their works continue to speak powerfully to modern readers.
This course encourages reader participation. First of all, each participant will choose a quote that he or she finds particularly interesting, relevant or moving. Every participant will, moreover, contribute to the discussion by giving their input on one of these subjects: the historical, literary, or personal background, character analysis, themes and motifs, language, connection to other literature or modern life etc. In this way the discussion will become richer and more interesting. Of course, you get to choose your own input.
Preferably the Penguin classics series. For sale at Amazon.nl, Bol.com or your local bookstore.
