Through the brush and ink of Japanese calligraphy, I find myself a connection to beauty of Japanese aesthetics, wabi-sabi

Japanese calligraphy artist LANKA was born in Hokkaido, Japan. She started learning Shūji [習字] when she was 7 years old at the private shodo school. She stopped to learn Shuji when she entered junior high school because she met many other new and interesting things. She wanted to try something else. LANKA was looking for a way to express herself. At the same time, she has been dreaming of living in Europe. She reflected on herself and thought about how to make these two happen. She finally decided to challenge shodō [書道] again at the Japanese calligraphy institute in 2012. After two years of study, she obtained a master’s level in calligraphy [師範]. She continued to learn calligraphy deeply in the post-graduate course for 4 more years. She has won awards and her work has been shown at public exhibitions during her study at the institute. LANKA moved to the Netherlands in 2018 and since then she has been working on her own artworks and expressions within Japanese calligraphy.
