Botanical Cyanotype Sunprints

Discover the magic of cyanotype, one of the oldest and easiest photographic printing techniques, where sunlight and chemistry transform simple objects into stunning blue-and-white prints. We’ll play with the natural beauty of flowers, leaves, and grasses to create unique botanical artworks.

In this three-part course, we’ll go deep into the cyanotype process. You’ll learn how to:

- Structure and compose both dried and fresh botanicals into a pleasing design and what effects different botanical leave on paper.

- Print on both paper and fabric and the differences between them.
- Create after-effects to make variations in the final prints (bleaching, toning, gold and colored details, stitching, waxing, gel medium).
- Set up a home workspace so you can continue creating cyanotypes after the class is over.

You'll leave with your own prints, but more importantly, you'll have a new perspective for the natural beauty around you. Don't be surprised if you're found looking closely at the leaves on a tree or peering into the tall grasses and saying, "Now that would make a great cyanotype!"

This course is taught in English.
